I have a pretty good turn of speed and can jump right quick when I need to - both of which could translate into a number of race wins. But I don't win races. What I lack is the anaerobic fitness to couple with the neuromuscular burst. I can jump and open a gap, but not hold it for more than, well, normally about 20 feet before the line. And I can follow any wheel over the last 500M, but am usually too depleted to jump hard in the final 50 and come around.
So I'm working more on the anaerobic efforts. For me these are moderate jumps followed by about 20 seconds of cruising, then ramping up for another 20 seconds and getting out of the saddle for the last 10 seconds - about a 1-minute effort total. They're supposed to produce a power profile that looks like a big "M". So far, the front of mine look like a capital "M" but the back look like a lower-case "m". After 45 seconds of serious work, I can't quite muster the jump to send my power northwards again. So I'm working on that. Today, for example.
