The team was out bonding in the mist and I shoehorned a quick one in between dropping my sons off at their mother's house, and dropping my mother-in-law off to pick up a bus to NYC. I had an hour and 15 minutes to change, ride, stop sweating, shower and get dressed.
I decided to do 3x10s, but instead of recovering at endurance pace in between, I only dropped down to tempo to recover for 5 minutes between efforts. I spun through the first one in the gear I normally tick through for LT work, but the HR only hit about 150 and I didn't feel labored. Curious. So for the next one I upshifted one tooth and about 1mph for the second half of the interval. I still felt better than I wanted to at the end. For the last one I put it in the bigger gear for the full 10 minutes. This is the gear I normally do VO2 efforts in on the trainer. I achieved the desired effect and was appropriately knackered at the end. So the good news is that I seem to have gotten a little faster. The bad news is that it only means next time is harder. I'll go big all the way and see if I can hang on.
This was another picture-of-efficiency workout: 52 minutes, IF of .96, 82 TSS points. It remains to be seen if these are also a picture-of-effectiveness.
