After about 12 hours of shoveling snow over the past few days, I now have pythons that would scare Jeff Corwin. What better workout than one that makes absolutely no use of them - climbing drills. It's basically 3x4 at VO2 with 1-minute of rest in between each interval. It's "climbing" instead of just pedaling slow because I put a yoga brick under my trainer block to simulate an 8% grade (the iBike calculates grade in real-time, which is awesome except when you're suffering and see that it's only 3.5%).
But instead of the 95-100 rpms I spin every damn time, I upshifted lots and dropped my cadence down to 75. The first set was just straight 4-minute efforts. In the second, I went down a gear and worked at the top of my tempo / bottom of my LT zones, and then put in hard 15-second seated attacks (same gear, higher cadence) at the beginning of minutes 2 and 4. The result is that I'm dizzy, but at least my driveway is clear.
